Claude Fable 5.5 has not been released. Anthropic's newsroom, checked at 18:09 UTC on October 25, 2026, lists Claude Haiku 5.5 (October 7) as its latest model announcement and has no post about a Fable 5.5. What exists is a trail of leaks and a model identifier that circulated in a cloud catalog feed for about a day. This page separates what is confirmed from what is reported, with a date and a source on every claim, and we will turn it into a full launch article if Anthropic ships a Fable 5.5.

Is Claude Fable 5.5 out yet?

No. The top organic result for "claude fable 5.5" in US results on October 25, 2026 was a Medium post headlined "Claude Fable 5.5 Is here", a headline that claims a launch Anthropic's own pages do not show. Anthropic's models overview lists Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5 as its current models. As of October 25, 2026, the current Fable is still Claude Fable 5.1.

Anthropic's newsroom dates Claude Opus 5.5 to September 22, Claude Sonnet 5.5 to September 28 and Claude Haiku 5.5 to October 7, 2026. Three of the four tiers now carry the 5.5 label, which is why the name Fable 5.5 sounds natural.

What Anthropic has confirmed

Anthropic has confirmed nothing about a Fable 5.5, including whether it plans one. What is on the record concerns models that already exist.

Anthropic's Opus 5.5 announcement said Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5 will follow in the coming weeks and listed no Fable among the models to follow. The same announcement says Opus 5.5 performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work.

Anthropic's models overview says to start with Claude Opus 5.5 if you are unsure which model to use, and to use Claude Fable 5.1 for demanding reasoning and long-horizon agentic work. The same overview lists Claude Fable 5.1 at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, with a 1M-token context window. Those are Fable 5.1 numbers, a baseline and not a Fable 5.5 specification.

What the leaks claim

Everything below is reported, not confirmed. Each row is a claim, who made it, and when.

| Claim | Where it came from | Date | Status | |---|---|---|---| | claude-fable-5-5 appeared in an Azure model list, then LiteLLM removed it | LiteLLM pull requests #46201 and #46428 | Oct 13 to 14 | Reported; removed a day later, no Anthropic confirmation | | Anthropic is readying a model that reads user intent better | The Information, via TestingCatalog and CellCog | Oct 19 | Reported, model family not named | | Anthropic may ship a new model before its IPO | Reuters (Sept 19); Bloomberg reported only the IPO timing (Oct 1) | Sept 19 and Oct 1 | Reported, no model named | | "Fable 5.1" outputs come from a stronger model | X posts and screenshots | From mid-September | Unverified | | Release "this week" | One X post, secondhand | Oct 13 | Did not happen |

The Azure listing. LiteLLM's price-sync bot added azure_ai/claude-fable-5-5 on October 13, 2026 at 12:27 UTC, sourced from Azure's East US 2 model list, according to CellCog's dated write-up. Apart from its deprecation date, the new row's fields, including input and output cost per token and max input tokens, were inherited from the Fable 5.1 row, according to LiteLLM's pull request, so the price and context limits were placeholders rather than specifications. LiteLLM removed the row on October 14, 2026, saying Azure does not list the model, according to the pull request that merged the removal. A name that sat in a catalog feed for about a day says someone saw an identifier, not that a launch is scheduled.

The Information. The Information reported on October 19, 2026 that Anthropic is readying a model that reads users' intentions better, due this month, without saying whether it is a Fable or an Opus, according to CellCog's account of TestingCatalog's relay. The report is paywalled, so the chain runs from The Information to TestingCatalog to CellCog to us, and we have not read the original.

The IPO angle. In a Reuters report dated September 19, 2026, three sources reportedly said Anthropic was considering a new AI model ahead of an expected IPO, three days before Opus 5.5 shipped, so that report cannot be tied to a Fable. Bloomberg reported on October 1, 2026 that Anthropic was seeking to go public as soon as mid-November. Neither report names a model, a tier or a release date.

Silent routing. From mid-September, X posts have claimed that a newer backend was answering in output comparisons, and as of CometAPI's October 13 write-up no API response had been shown with a different model ID. Demos said to show "Fable 5.5" rest on attribution by the posters alone, per CometAPI.

"This week." An October 13 X post said Anthropic would ship Fable 5.5 that week, according to OrcaRouter, which found no screenshot, model ID, price or benchmark attached. The week ended with no launch.

What is still unknown

| Question | Answer today | |---|---| | Is a new Fable coming at all? | Not announced | | Is the name "Fable 5.5"? | Not announced | | Release date | Not announced | | API model ID | Not announced (claude-fable-5-5 is only a reported catalog string) | | Pricing | Not announced | | Context window and output limit | Not announced | | Benchmarks | None published |

Anthropic has published no Fable 5.5 price or benchmark, so any figure circulating today is unverified.

What to use today

Use what exists. Anthropic says to start with Opus 5.5 when you are unsure, and to reach for Fable 5.1 when Opus at higher effort still falls short. Our Claude Fable 5.1 guide covers its real cost and trade-offs, and the Claude pricing breakdown tracks what each plan includes.

Primary sources to watch for a real announcement are Anthropic's newsroom and the models overview.

How this page will be updated

We recheck this page weekly against Anthropic's newsroom and models overview. If Anthropic announces a Fable 5.5, it becomes a full launch article with confirmed specs, pricing and benchmarks.
